Job Description

Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Power BI Developer / Business Intelligence Engineer to lead a large-scale Business Intelligence modernization initiative. The successful candidate will be responsible for migrating and optimizing legacy dashboards and reports from QlikSense and Cognos to Power BI, integrating with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to enhance performance, scalability, and self-service analytics capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
Power BI Development & Modernization

• Design, rebuild, and optimize complex visualizations and dashboards in Power BI, replicating existing QlikSense and Cognos reports.
• Develop advanced DAX expressions, measures, and variables to accurately model business logic.
• Utilize Power Query for robust data transformation and Power View for intuitive data visualization.
• Redesign and optimize underlying data models for improved performance and scalability.
• Conduct gap analyses and reverse-engineer legacy dashboards to enhance functionality in Power BI.

Data Modeling & Integration

• Configure Direct Query and Import Mode connections to Google BigQuery for real-time and large-scale data analytics.
• Develop semantic data models in Power BI to abstract complex GCP data structures and enable self-service reporting.
• Collaborate with data engineering teams to design and orchestrate ETL pipelines using BigQuery, Cloud Storage, and Dataflow .
• Implement incremental refresh policies for BigQuery datasets, improving data load efficiency and reducing refresh times.

Performance Optimization & Governance

• Utilize DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, and Performance Analyzer to troubleshoot and optimize slow queries and visuals.
• Apply BI performance best practices to enhance report responsiveness, achieving up to 40% performance gains.
• Establish governed Power BI datasets, ensuring data standardization, security, and compliance.
• Monitor Fabric capacity metrics and Power BI usage reports to identify performance trends and optimize capacity planning.

Administration & User Enablement

• Manage Power BI workspaces, roles, and licenses according to business requirements.
• Configure scheduled refreshes, alerting mechanisms, and access controls to ensure reliable and secure data delivery.
• Provide end-user training on Power BI self-service features, including report personalization, Analyze in Excel, bookmarks, and content sharing.

Legacy Platform Management (QlikView / QlikSense)

• Maintain administrative knowledge of QlikView and Qlik Sense, including user management, resource planning, and performance tuning.
• Design and maintain QVD layers and data models to optimize load performance.
• Eliminate synthetic keys and ambiguous relationships to improve data integrity and reliability.
• Manage QlikView/QlikSense jobs and scheduling through QMC, including automation of extracts and reloads.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Proven experience in Power BI (Desktop & Service) development, including DAX, Power Query, and Tabular modeling.
• Strong understanding of Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Storage) integration with Power BI.
• Hands-on experience with QlikView and Qlik Sense development and administration.
• Solid understanding of data modeling concepts (star schema, normalization, ETL).
• Experience in performance optimization using tools like DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, and Performance Analyzer.
• Proficiency in SQL and relational databases (e.g., Oracle).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience implementing BI governance frameworks and security models (RLS, workspace permissions, capacity management).
• Familiarity with Fabric metrics , self-service analytics enablement, and enterprise BI modernization initiatives.
• Certification in Power BI , Google Cloud , or related technologies is a plus.
