General Summary:
The Consult Liaison Psychologist is a highly skilled and compassionate licensed psychologist with expertise in Consultation-Liaison Psychology. This position will work within an interdisciplinary team, providing psychological services to inpatient patients with both primary and secondary psychiatric diagnoses on the inpatient medical floors and experiencing severe medical trauma in the Emergency Department (ED). The successful candidate will be a strong generalist and play a key role in enhancing the overall care of patients by addressing the psychological and emotional impacts of trauma, collaborating with medical teams, and conducting individual, group, and family interventions. The candidate chosen for this position will provide evidence-based brief interventions (CBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness skills) to a variety of patients and family members who present on our inpatient medical floors and to the ED with psychiatric and health-related distress. Part of the clinician’s regular duties will also include following up with patients who are admitted to acute medicine (inpatient medical) floors from our ED or coordinating care with Behavioral Medicine team members.
Responsibilities:
1. Work with the psychiatry team to provide assessment and therapy for inpatient patients with psychiatric and risk needs on inpatient medical floors and in the ED.
2. Evaluate suicidality and self-harm, psychosis, malingering, mood, and other psychiatric disorders in the ED and on acute medical floors.
3. Introduce evidence-based interventions to improve distress tolerance, emotion regulation, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness during acute hospitalization.
4. Engage in program development and oversight of group therapy in EmPATH Unity.
5. Assist in the oversight of Behavioral Health Techs and Trainees
6. Conduct bedside assessments, consultations, and brief interventions with patients across all acute medical departments, including Oncology, Cardiology, Trauma, Surgery, Pediatrics/PICU, General Medical/Surgical, and Emergency Medicine.
7. Provide feedback and make recommendations to medical and interdisciplinary teams for care to address psychological challenges related to medical illness.
8. Facilitate communication with family members.
9. Develop and assist with the implementation of behavioral plans for patients and their families.
10. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
